Extract of an experimental 360 Virtual Reality animated scene made after one of my drawings during training sessions at the QUAD, Derby in 2018-2019. I imported some drawings and GIFs into the Unity software to create the scenery. For better viewing : click on the video to see it full size As I am slowly exploring possibilities of animating my drawings, I am finding that I want to stay away from technology and try more basic ways to animate them. I am being very interested in the idea of letting the author of the drawings appear withing the animation, bringing an added intimate and autobiographical quality to the work.

This was a filmed performance that was then shown on a TV screen in the same place where it had been filmed. I had set up a camera inside the shop, as well as a TV screen which was showing me my image live. I was delimiting the filmed space with my body as I was progressing toward the camera inside the shop.

Dark Continent , 2007 "The phrase "Dark Continent" first appeared as evocating Africa in a colonialist context. It was then used by Sigmund Freud to refer to women's sexuality and later discussed by feminist intellectuals, critizising the passive role associated with feminity. In their early revendication, feminists also tended to establish a parallel between the women liberation and the liberation of the Black people from oppression. On Gilberto Gil's Brazilian music, the present video piece evocates this multilayered subject. In a humoristic and sensual manner, the dance also questions the duality between different types of languages : male and female, mother tongue and foreign language, verbal and non verbal communication. This is a struggle and a longing for reconciliation, for the Other to be recognized as part of oneself."

This piece was shown on a TV screen but in a previous version, it was a live filmed and projected performance where people knew that I was in that space but couldn't see it directly. Interview by Graham Coulter-Smith about this piece :

The Rebirth project From March to July 2009, local artists, photographers and documentary makers worked in collaboration with hospital staff, patients and families to creatively explore the transformation of the UHNS Maternity Centre. This event is the first showing of the artworks that have resulted from the project and a documentary that explores the transformation. Images of my video projection :

Here we used 2 projectors, a video camera and a CCTV camera. The moving images are live. The CCTV and the video camera were filming the same scene (kitchen) from 2 different angles.
